A very exciting weekend lies ahead for me, with highlights coming tonight and tomorrow night.

Tomorrow night, we try to finish a concert started June 4th of last year, when Cee Cee James once again graces the stage at Riverside Park Amphitheater and attempts to finish her concert from last year which was rain shortened to only six songs. Hopefully, since we are admist this extremely serious drought, we can expect a couple of extra hours of no rain and Cee Cee can get her show in this year.

Tonight, for the first time ever, Cee Cee and her band will take the stage at the Slippery Noodle Inn in Indy for what should prove to be a four hour set of the blues from 9 until 1...we have a good number of people going tonight and several others meeting us up there for her show tonight.

I have been saving for this night for quite a while now, so we can have a few drinks and dinner at the Noodle and listen to some awesome blues jams tonight as well. The board of the Riverside Park Organizing Committee has graciously given me the night off tomorrow night so I can enjoy the show and socialize with Cee Cee when she is done.

If you have never had the pleasure of hearing this dynamic woman sing, you have no idea what you are missing. She's awesome and I can't wait to see her live this weekend, not just once, but twice!

Pretty freaking cool!!!

Are You Freaking Kidding Me?

The all time record for the highest temperature ever recorded in Indiana is 106 degrees, set back in the Summer of 1936.

Yesterday the thermometer hit 105 degrees.

Right now as I am typing this it is 104 degrees right outside this wall of the room I am sitting in.

Yes, it's freaking hot.

No, it still hasn't freaking rained.

A small 40 percent chance of rain lies in tomorrow's forecast, as well as a cooling off to 91 degrees.

Yeah, cooling off to 91.

That sounds ridiculous, and it seems even more ridiculous to consider it feeling good outside at 91 degrees, but I'll guarantee you all of us going thru this heat will be able to tell a difference.

No, I won't be turning the a/c off anytime soon, because even with temperatures forecast to be back down in the 80s this week, the humidity will still be horrid.

We've not been doing any cooking out for obvious reasons. I normally do the outside cooking, Peggy does the inside cooking. I have this huge slab of beef ribs, some really nice looking ribeyes and some awesome looking boneless pork chops, just waiting to be cooked once the temperatures make it back down to where it won't be like standing in the pits of hell when I cook them.

Until then, I have no idea what the love of my life has decided on for supper tonight, but whatever it is, it will be delicious as always.

Now to decide whether to have chilled wine, ice cold beer or a pop to go along with that evening meal.

One thing I do know: That meal will be eaten inside in the cool confines of our air conditioned living room while watching the Nascar race from Daytona.

Now, if it would just the hell rain soon!!!

Dry, Dry, Dry

We are going thru the worst drought since back in the 1930s and witnessing temperatures ranging from the mid 90s to a record high last week of 104.

My once beautiful yard is now brown and tomorrow will make four weeks since I've mowed. Hard to imagine this has happened, but alas, it has. The last time I can remember any significant rainfall was back in March.

With that in mind and 89 of Indiana's 92 counties under some kind of burn ban or advisory, it breaks my mind that neighbors of mine this evening are actually setting off fireworks.

You know, I know it's the patriotic thing to do, but let's face it, with this dryness we have right now on virtually everything, you would think common sense would tell you NOT to set of fireworks.

Many cities in Indiana either cancelled or postponed their fireworks because of the fire danger, which is so very real right now.

I stepped outside a few minutes ago and listened, and these folks are the ONLY ones I can hear in town setting them off.

The funny thing, I thought these folks would be the ones who were smart enough not to take any chances, and the ones I thought that would haven't set off that first one.

You can't predict human nature, I guess.

Home Once Again

After a first time trip to Vegas, Peggy got home this morning after spending the last 7 days in a condo out in the unreal world of the Strip along with her three sisters, a cousin and a friend.

They had a ball, including a trip to Hoover Dam, watching Cirque de Soleil, an evening with Jeff Dunham and a performance of Dancing With The Stars.

They made many memories along the way and had countless good times we haven't even had a chance to discuss yet.

I am so glad she is able to do these things with her family, and even though I was invited, I thought the time would be better enjoyed if I stayed home and let them do their own thing.

After an early morning flight out of Vegas into Cleveland and a prop plan trip back to Indianapolis from Cleveland, Peggy arrived home late this morning. She got unpacked, ate, and promptly fell asleep after being up for over 24 hours.

Late this afternoon I took her to Mezcal for an early evening meal, and, after getting out her computer, this is how I found her ten minutes after she logged on.

I would say she had a great time.

I am glad she's home, and I hate that she has to head right back to work tomorrow, because I would love to have about three straight days to spend with her.

However, the reality of the situation is that she goes back to work tomorrow and we have a family reunion we go to this coming weekend and get to spend Friday thru Sunday together non-stop at our favorite winter destination, the Clifty Inn at Clifty Falls State Park in Madison.

My time alone was busy, uneventful and I'm seriously glad she's back home now...

I would never make a good bachelor, trust me!

bogus

always the butt of the joke
always the one who suffered
yet
he took it like a man
and he faced
forward
each and everyday
he took the lumps
the blackeyes and beatings
he took the stares
the jokes
the laughter
and the lies
and
each day
he got up
he faced the day
and
he took it
again
and again
and
again
and again
and when he thought he
had no more left
to sustain him
he gathered that strength
and the wisdom
that had never failed him
and he turned the other cheek
used and abused
but all the stronger
and more admirable for it
he realized then
what truth and friendship
really and truly meant
and he realized all too well
the lies and deceit
that lie behind each
and
every
smile
and then
he found his
strength

and

he laughed

Shades Of Blue

Just when you thought it was safe
I have returned
For the soul purpose
Of
Screwing with your
Karma....

Sole?
Soul?
Purpose?
Porpoise?

Is that screw a flat head
Or,
is It a
Phillips

Is your karma
Your own
Or do you share it
Unknowingly
With someone
Quite unlike
Yourself?

Are you listening
or is it just
a
Pigment
of your
Imagination
and if it is,
Is it blue
Or indigo?

And just where did
Indy Go?

I Hate This Damned Day

Please get me thru this day.

One day each year I totally dread.

That day has arrived.

My father has been gone for over three decades now but I still miss him like it was just yesterday that he passed away.

My own son has turned his back on his family, for whatever selfish reasons he has. This isn't the first time, he did it once before the day we buried my mom and he disappeared for over three years.

Then, back into our lives he comes, albeit for only ten months or so, and then away he goes again.

So far this time it's been seven years.

He now has five sons of his own and I hope none of them ever treats him like he has treated us.

Hurt has turned to anger over the past few years.

Anyone who knows me knows that I try not to harbor ill feelings towards anyone.

My own son knows this and I guess it makes it easier for him to treat us the way he does.

He's going to be 39 years old this year.

I wonder if he's ever going to grow up and be a man and face life head on.

Somehow I doubt it.

So, as I sit back and let another Fathers Day go by, I hope he has a good day with his sons and I hope they treat him with dignity and respect and that they show him a lot of love.

Personally, I just hope Monday gets here quickly, because, quite frankly, I can't wait for this damned day to be over.

Wishing...

He cast aside his dreams
He threw away his wishes
He became what she wanted him to be
And he discovered all too late
That as a dream girl
She was a freaking nightmare.
Then he wished for death...

The Purpose

The power of one soul
Driven forward
Embedded with the power of life
Traversing the Universe
Blindly,
Without direction
Moving at the speed of light
Focused on the now
Relinquishing nothing
Taking nothing
As well.
Forward driven,
Always forward
Searing thru atmosphere
After atmosphere
Homing in on the target
Already designated
By
The Holy One.
No repetition
No blockades
Nothing
Standing in its
Path
Bringing with it
The
Promise
Of the spark
That shall be
The creation
Of a new
One,
Whose future
Is already forecast
And
Predetermined
Until that time
When the force
Shall be collected
And set again
On a new and wondrous
Journey.

clear light

More has slipped thru my fingers than I've ever been able to hold onto. However, what I have been able to hold onto has been more than enough to sustain me and keep me smiling in this journey we call life.-

Gotta Love This

The following quote is NOT mine, but when I read it yesterday I totally fell in love with it and it was so good I had to share it.  One of the best put down lines I have ever heard:

If I had a shot of whiskey everytime I thought of you I'd be sober.

Premonitions?

I have always had the ability to "sense" certain events in my life.  Some good, some not so good.

Recently, I've been having some visions of things I would rather not see, let alone talk about.

I hope the things that are being "seen" by me right now do not transpire.

That's all I plan on saying about it.

At least, for now....

From January 18th, 1982

Due to my page just turning seven years old a few days ago, I decided to pull out my old handwritten entries from years ago, pick one out and post it here. I smile each time I read the following short entry I wrote over 30 years ago. It is indeed something quite different, but I remember how much fun I had writing it back then. Hope you enjoy it!

Barney

Barney put his glubs on and wondered what to do. He had been grazing at the television all afternoon at a restless match and decided this wasn't halfing any influenza on him, so he put his globs on and his new hooded Parkinson. Hells, the match had begun with a muchly Groided version of the Star Speckled Banana and this had really disappropriated hymn.

So, with nothing else to do, Barney despited to go out scorching for some female-type boards. He went down to the local dislocation and tried to pick up some duckies, but only receded in discotequing his sacrilegious. "Mishaps," he thought, "I should go to the drive in down on the boilermaker and adrink a boulevard or two and made some lude prepositions to some of the prosecutors that hang out there." He preceded to do this but only ended up being selected and had no contraception why.

In spite of all this, he taught maybe hge could still score some doggy somewhere, so he went cruding down by the bitch. But a lad, this puked to be of no availability ether, so he just home and read "Rustler" and masticated.

Seven Years

Seven years ago today I started this blogpage.

Seven years.

It's not always lived up to what I thought it would be when I started it, and other times it's far exceeded what I wanted to.

I've created controversy at times, I've had a mean spirited stalker who said he was supporting me yet found fault with everything I wrote and made sure to let me know it.

I've written a lot of poetry, some which I liked, some of which I loved and some of which I didn't much care for.

I've developed a following as such; those who I refer to as my Faithful Few and those who just happen by once in a while. I have readers who know me, those who don't and some who only think they know me.

I get e mails, phone calls, the very seldom comment and I have one reader who thinks everything I write is referring to them, which is by no means true. I guess Carly Simon's song "You're So Vain" does indeed fall into the "mundane" life of a blogger, albeit it indirectly.

There are aspects of my life that a lot of my poetry refers to. One of those things is the lack of a relationship with a certain family member, and it's a lot of those poems that people tend to think is relating to them.

Trust me, nothing could be further from the truth.

So, after seven years, I will continue to pursue my blogging, whether it be a poem, a short story, real or fiction, something that upsets me or excites me or is of interest to me.

I will continue to write some things that people will like, some they won't and some they think is about something else.

It's always up to you whether you continue to read or not.

I hope you continue, and I hope to occasionally hear from you all in some way or another.

I will continue to blog only when I feel like it or when it seems necessary to do so.

I know you won't always agree with what I write or like it, but I do hope you continue to read from time to time.

The words just beg to be set free every once in a while.

To quote myself: "Times they change as people do, but the past remains the same..."

Here's to another year of blogging!

Child of Destruction

Prejudice is the poison
That will destroy mankind.
Misplaced and unearned
Vanity,
Will begat
Prejudice,
And self induced
High esteem,
While unwarranted,
Will only end in a
Display
Of total
Ignorance.

From the book of Matthew:

In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week,
came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

28:2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake:
for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven,
and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.

28:3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:

28:4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.

28:5 And the angel answered and said unto the women,
Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.

28:6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said.
Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

28:7 And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead;
and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.

28:8 And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy;
and did run to bring his disciples word.

28:9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail.
And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.

28:10 Then said Jesus unto them,
Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.

28:11 Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city,
and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done.

28:12 And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel,
they gave large money unto the soldiers,

28:13 Saying,
Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.

28:14 And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him, and secure you.

28:15 So they took the money, and did as they were taught:
and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.

28:16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee,
into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.

28:17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.

28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying,
All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:
and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

From the book of Matthew:

17

¶ And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Gol'gotha:

18

where they crucified him, and two others with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.

19

And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.

20

This title then read many of the Jews; for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.

21

Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.

22

Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.

23

¶ Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.

24

They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the Scripture might be fulfilled, which saith,

They parted my raiment among them,

and for my vesture they did cast lots. Ps. 22.18

These things therefore the soldiers did.

25

¶ Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cle'ophas, and Mary Mag'dalene.

26

When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

27

Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

28

¶ After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

29

Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. Ps. 69.21

30

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost
