Scary

For some reason this year, emotions are running so high and out of kilter that I sometimes feel like I'm ready to explode. I can't put a finger on it, I can't explain it any better than that.

I just wish to hell the feeling would go away.

Always and forever.

What! No "Summer Heat" posts since November of 2006? A continuance of Summer Heat would be most enjoyable. Was the story about Flip Willkie releasing a truck load of hogs during a Summer Heat show at the Community building true? What were the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of Jay McGinnis?

Actually, October of 2008 contained the last installment of Remembering Summer Heat. And yeah, that's been way too long ago and I need to do something about that, don't I? Sometimes I honestly think no one reads these postings, and then someone like yourself comes along and makes a comment like yours and that gets me interested again. So yes, soon, the next installment will be appearing, I promise.

Now to clarify on one of your statements. No, it absolutely is NOT true about Flip releasing a truck load of hogs, although I must admit it sounds very much like something he would have done at one of our shows.

Regarding the late Jay McGinnis: I have planned later on to add an installment covering different things about the band and its members, and that is one of the things I plan on discussing at that time.

Hopefully I will be doing more posting this year than I have recently as for some reason or another, Flowers kind of got put on the back burner this past year.

Thanks for writing.

One other thing: Where are Denny Dawson, Jim Smiley, and Mike Clarkson today? Do they play any music today? Or was Summer Heat just an early phase of their lives? Also, what has become of Flip Willkie? Did he ever make anything of himself? Sorry I missed your October of 2008 post. But I did read it and it was a good posting. If you want people to read your blog, you gotta let people know it's here. Those jokers over at the Rushville Truth site got the word out and they have regular readers as a result. You have a very informative site; one that's worth reading. On the home page of the Rushville Republican on-line, I'd ask Kevin Green if he'd run a little human interest story on your site. There are several years of posts that Kevin would readily see that are worth a mention. You gotta get your name out there. If people know you're here, they'll read it! Get the word out!

Honestly, I thank you for the suggestions, but I think I more or less like to depend on word of mouth to solicit readers. I occasionally mention this blogpage to others, but I'm actually content to let my Faithful Few get the word out for me. Because of my lack of blogging this past year, I guess I assumed because I had quit writing regularly that maybe readers had given up on me as well. Your comments have shown me that maybe that just isn't the case.
Anyway, the embers that are my writing seem to be getting fanned again, so let's see where 2010 takes us as I ponder venturing back into these pages again.

It's gonna take a little more than word-of-mouth to alert readers to your blog. Look at the length of the website address of your blog. No one's gonna be able to rattle that address off the top of their head. No, you gotta do a little shameless self-promotion.

Yours cannot be the only blog out there written by a Rush County native. What would be a good suggestion for Kevin Green would be for Kevin to solicit those who have local blogs, and then inform them that there is an opportunity to have their blog link listed on the homepage of the on-line Rushville Republican.

Since the new forum site, linked to the on-line Rushville Republican homepage, really stinks (as compared to the old forum site), a listing of local blogs would be a better use of link space.

And another thing: Whatever happened to Bill Atwood? He played drums too back during the time of Summer Heat. And he lived in that rundown house with his mother at the end of a deserted lane across US-52 from the old Willkie farm. His mother was a housekeeper for the Willkies. Whatever became of her when Phillip Willkie met his untimely demise?

I may drop a hint to Kevin Green asking him to provide a tab on the homepage of the Rushville Republican website listing links of local bloggers. That most assuredly will increase traffic to the on-line Rushville Republican site along with increased traffic to all bloggers listed.

Actually I have found out thru friends of mine that if you google just the title of my blog page it brings it up number one and that's how a few of my Faithful Few have found me.
Regarding Bill, wow, so many years, and yes, Bill actually did drum a little with Heat and he was THE drummer when Heat broke up and reformed under a different name, again, something I plan on addressing in another installment.
Also, if you would like to continue corresponding with me and not have your correspondence posted for everyone to see, drop me an e-mail at the link on my page and I'll be more than happy to stay in touch with you thru e mails.
I truly do appreciate having you along as one of my Faithful Few and hope you enjoy some of the postings and hopefully many more new ones to come.
Peace!
